Super Mario Galaxy: A Risky Move That’s Breaking the Internet.
The new Super Mario Galaxy Movie was never really supposed to play it safe. After the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, they could just have done another browser and peach rescue. Of course it would had made money at the box office but instead they went to space. Not just for the whole space vibes but this was actually a Cosmic-level storytelling with more emotional risks and new characters. Now the question is, did they overdo it or was it a genius move? Cause we've seen online about how the movie is getting mixed reviews from fans and lower reviews from critics. Some love the movie, while some are just confused. But is this movie actually worth your time?
The whole plot of the movie is Mario being pulled out of his normal world into a collapsing galaxy system. Bowser isn’t just kidnapping Peach, he’s trying to control cosmic power which means entire galaxies are at risk. The introduction of Rosalina changes everything. She isn't just your normal character, she brings emotion, a backstory about loss, a calm, mysterious personality, plus a connection to the stars. Suddenly it's not about Mario saving the day, it's about Mario understanding that some things are bigger than him.
Let's talk about the voices. Brie Larson plays Rosalina, Chris Pratt plays Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy plays Princess Peach, Charlie Day plays Luigi, Jack Black plays Bowser. Brie Larson as Rosalina really adds more emotional weight the franchise didn't have before.
Despite having mixed reviews, the movie still opened up to a strong box office cumulation. It opened huge, climbing fast and still trending weeks after it's release. Well one of the reasons it was getting mixed reviews it's because it was really different from the 2023 movie. The first one was just for pure fun but now the new one was more on emotional depth and not many people liked that shift. The movie really took a big risk, tried something different, the visuals are insane, plus the animation was so good. It had bright galaxies, creative worlds and stunning space designs.
Is the movie actually worth watching? Yes. Just come with expectations. Watch it if you want to see amazing visuals and something that's very different from usual Mario. You can skip it if you want simple straight storytelling and pure comedy without depth. I really respect this movie more than I love it. It really tried to make a shift from a regular narrative, it added emotions and also expanded the world a whole lot. It tried not to play safe. It would had been boring if it did.
Sometimes a movie doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to push things forward. And Super Mario Galaxy Movie does that. Super Mario Galaxy Movie is still playing in theatres.
