"I wanted him to study abroad" - Asake's Mum reveals.
Asake's mother shared on Korty EO's podcast that she had prepared to send her son to the UK by raising funds and obtaining a passport before he decided to attend Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) instead.
During the podcast, she explained how she had everything ready for Asake, an award-winning artist, to study abroad but he was rather bent on pursuing his education at OAU in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Asake's mother mentioned that she was in her shop when he came in and expressed his desire to go to school, stating, “Iya Ahmed, they asked me to go to school; I want to go to school.”
Initially, she hoped he would choose to study overseas, but an acquaintance from the family, actor Muyideen Oladapo, also known as Lala, who was attending OAU at the time, convinced her to support Asake's decision and helped him gain admission. She said to Korty, "I asked if he could manage him, as I felt I couldn't."

His connection to the institution was highlighted during his visit last December to the Ile-Ife campus, where he performed at the OAU Amphitheatre, engaging with the crowd of students who performed in their traditional Yoruba mien, thus, demonstrating his cultural ties, while his mother accompanied him.
Hewas well received by the Vice Chancellor Professor Simeon Bamire and senior officials, subsuming Dr Oluwatoyin Ogundeji of the Theatre Arts department where is journey ensued.
Now one of Nigeria's leading musical talents, with numerous successful projects and awards coupled with international performances and recognitions, Asake’s mother's narrative adds a heartfelt layer to his career, which he acknowledges could have taken a very different direction.
On the podcast, Asake also shared the story behind his nickname "Giran," meaning stubborn in Yoruba, and expressed his love for both his parents, even though they are no longer together.

It clearly shaped the hunger, the culture, and the sound that turned him into the global star we all jam today. Sometimes your roots are the real passport to success. Legend move!
