Moniepoint's CEO laments over company's inability to find 500 qualified Nigerians to fill vacant positions.
Moniepoint's CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, has stated that the company is facing difficulties in filling around 500 job positions due to a lack of qualified candidates in Nigeria.
Speaking at The Platform event in Lagos, he noted that although Moniepoint has committed to hiring exclusively from Nigeria, it struggles to find individuals who meet its high standards.
He emphasized the necessity of recruiting skilled professionals as the company competes on a global level, especially against firms from China.
“We’re not just up against local competitors; we need exceptional talent to ensure that we have world-class individuals within our organization,” he remarked.
Eniolorunda highlighted the role of Nigeria's education system and shifting social values in contributing to the existing talent gap.
He expressed concern about the growing influence of internet fraud and a culture focused on quick wealth, which he believes is diminishing the aspirations of young Nigerians.
“The level of critical thinking in the country seems to be declining,” he observed.
He also pointed out that the trend of skilled workers migrating abroad, commonly referred to as “japa,” adds to the talent shortage.
He stressed the need for Nigeria to invest in developing its human capital and to provide positive role models to inspire youth towards sustainable career paths.
