Love can sometimes make people give more than they should, especially when they believe in the future of a relationship. The movie Water and Wine starring Ruth Kadiri, Deza the Great and Eddie Watson tells us about the life of Susan who sacrificed her effort and money for her boyfriend, but she was never appreciated and valued by him. Jide on the other hand was never sincere or truthful to his girlfriend Susan, he lied to his girlfriend about his business just because he wanted to prove a point, he tried persuading his girlfriend to stop her work because he wanted her to focus on the work at home, Susan never agreed to that, she has a career, and she wants to pursue it and also contribute to the welfare of the home.  After many years of working, she got the greatest shock of her life, she noticed that her boyfriend Jide was never broke as he had told her before, and she was actually working on a contract for her boyfriend unknown to her, and also she has been paying house rent to her husband all these years too. The painful part was how Jide started bringing in different women to the house while his girlfriend was hustling for his family and himself.  That’s a pure wickedness and heartlessness, but the good part of the story was that Susan realised herself and rose up to her self worth. 

There are lessons to be learnt from knowing your worth. 

Love shouldn’t be one sided,  love is a mutual effort and respect from both partners. From the movie we saw that Susan was the one who was putting effort in the relationship. 

There must be limits in whatever you do in the relationship.  Sacrifice must be done with wisdom.  Don’t sacrifice in a relationship to the expense of your peace of mind and happiness. 

You must avoid any form of disrespect and dishonesty in a relationship . Overlooking this signs of disrespect and dishonesty can actually make a person to be stuck in a bad relationship. 

You have every right to walk away from any toxic relationship where you are not appreciated or valued .

In my opinion to the movie "Water and Wine starring Ruth Kadiri, Deza the Great and Eddie Watson.  The movie tells us about the realities in so many relationships in Nigeria. 

It also shows us the theme of love, sacrifice in a relationship, how the main character gave her efforts, supports for the man that she truly loved . She was ready to make the relationship work out well even when she noticed some signs in the relationship that  was not really good.

The movie also shows the power of self worth, respect and value in a relationship. 

Susan was really committed to her boyfriend, she sacrificed her effort and support for Jide, but she was never appreciated or valued by him, she never understood this until she met Joshua a stranger who later became a very close friend to her.  Joshua knew the power of self worth, respect and value which Jide Susan's boyfriend lacked .

It also  shows that no one should be taken for granted because of their kindness.  Jide took advantage of his girlfriend's kindness. 

The movie shows that everyone most especially the ladies has right to work and contribute to the welfare of the home.  It shouldn't be meant for only the man to take care of the family.  Jide wanted to stop his girlfriend from working because he had money just as some men do today.  Ladies are help meet not house maids, so they can also do something for themselves and contribute to the welfare of the home too. This will also pass a message to ladies that has been denied of their rights to do work, and also losing their self worth and value . They ought to make themselves useful to themselves and to the society . They shouldn't remain a relationship with a person that doesn't value them, appreciate them or even recognise their efforts. 

The men are not left out in this . They must be ready to always support their wives to achieve their goals and career pursuits, care for them, encourage them in things, this will make their wives to be appreciated and valued in the relationship.  There shouldn't be any form of manly power when it comes to contribution to the welfare of the home.  The women have their roles to play so go to the men. Like I said earlier women are help meets not house maids. 

Also the movie tells us that there shouldn't be any form of dishonesty, disrespect or infidelity in a relationship.  Jide was not truthful to his girlfriend Susan.  He lied that he lost all his containers just because he wanted to prove a point, a point that wasn't really valid and congent.  He also brought different women to the house while his girlfriend was hustling for his family and himself . He was not honest, he had problems with infidelity and he even disrespected his wife by bringing different women to the house and even sleeping with them on their matrimonial bed .

  The movie tells us that we should be mindful of our speech and things that we says with our mouth and also there will always be a repercussion for everything they  we do . Jide lied to his girlfriend that all these containers of goods sanked in the sea, his  containers of goods truly sanked in the sea at the end of the movie and by then he actually lost everything he had .
