We Waited A Decade For GTA VI… Was It Worth The Pain?
There are games people get excited for while there are games that just become a whole world event even before they come out. Yes, GTA VI falls into that category. For years gamers have been waiting, debugging and speculating what Rockstar have been cooking up with GTA VI behind the scenes the wait has been so long to the point that it feels like a myth. The most popular joke is that "by the time GTA VII comes out, we'll all have kids by then". The gap between GTA V and GTA VI is one of the longest waits in modern gaming history. GTA V released in 2013. That means many players who were children when they first played it are now adults. Some people have finished school, started careers, and completely changed their lives while GTA V was still active. That is honestly one of the craziest things about Rockstar’s success. Most games disappear after a few years but GTA V did not.
Nobody outside Rockstar actually knows the actual GB size of GTA VI but looking at the complexity of GTA VI, it'll be more than 100GB let's say up to 150GB. As you all know GTA VI is expected to have a massive map, high-quality textures, detailed environments, large amounts of voice acting, complex systems. I even hear the NPC'S are really smart. Another reason GTA VI is so exciting is the location. The game returns to Vice City. The original Vice City was already iconic that you could actually feel the the 1980s style, the music, the atmosphere and even look like you're experiencing the crime story. But GTA VI’s version is expected to be a modern take. Instead of the old 80s world, it looks like a Florida-inspired environment influenced by today’s culture. That means social media, internet culture, and modern life can become part of the satire plus the characters can actually enter sixty to seventy percent of the buildings making the game even more interesting. GTA VI is expected to release this November 19. But let's just hope they don't move it though because I'm tired of Rockstar constantly moving the release dates. Every gaming company is under pressure and carefully watching Rockstar and most of them don't even plan releasing their games because of the immense pressure GTA VI is giving.
On one side, fans are tired, on the other they have waited for years, they've have watched rumours come and go, they have watched other games release while Rockstar stayed quiet. For many players, GTA VI is not just a game they are waiting for it is something they have been expecting for a huge part of their lives. So when people hear the possibility of another delay, the reaction is usually “Please, just release it already.” But there is another side. Gaming history has shown us that rushing a massive game can destroy years of work. A broken launch can damage a company’s reputation almost instantly. We have seen games arrive unfinished, full of bugs, and missing important features. Rockstar’s reputation is built on the opposite. They are known for taking time and releasing polished experiences. So the question is not “Should Rockstar hurry?” The real question is “How do they balance quality with the unbelievable hype?” Personally, I think Rockstar has to avoid delaying the game unless it is truly necessary. Not because fans are impatient, but because the longer the wait becomes, the harder it is to satisfy expectations. At some point, the hype becomes its own monster, people are not just expecting a great game anymore. Some people are expecting the greatest game ever made. That is almost impossible.
One of the most talked about stuffs about GTA VI is the budget. For a game that took this long, it would definitely have a massive budget. A lot of numbers have been thrown around online, with some people claiming the game could be one of the most expensive entertainment projects ever created. Some are even saying the game could have cost $2 billion dollars to make. Some gamers have confirmed that GTA VI actually cost more than the current standard price of major games. People have mentioned prices like $80 for a normal edition and $100 for a premium edition. Like if that amount was converted to my country's currency, it'll actually compensate for the average minimum wage. Funny though.
Will GTA VI be mostly digital? Rockstar has not officially confirmed that it will only be digital but the idea has become popular because of how gaming is changing. Modern games are massive and a physical disc does not always contain the entire experience anymore many games today require a disc a large update, extra download so some people believe future releases may move toward physical boxes containing download codes instead. Basically you buy the box, inside is a code, you redeem it, you download the game. The advantage? easier distribution, no need for extremely large discs, faster updates, less manufacturing cost. The disadvantage? It changes what “owning a game” means. Older players remember buying a disc and having the full game. You could keep it for years or you could even lend it. A digital code feels different. It is more like buying access. That is why some gamers are uncomfortable with the idea.
If GTA VI actually releases, the whole internet would be chaos. Imagine millions trying to download gigabytes of data all at once. I mean Rockstar's servers could really take a huge hit that day. Their servers may even be temporarily shut down. The funniest thing about Rockstar’s release schedule is that fans are already joking about GTA VII. Imagine GTA VI releases and everyone is happy and all. Years later Rockstar announces GTA VII. People say “Finally!” Then someone remembers “Wait… I was young when GTA VI came out.” GTA VII might genuinely make some fans say “Back in my day, GTA VI was new.”
